Research Participants

A total of six inner-urban higher density precincts were selected for this study from within six kilometres of the Central Business District (CBD) of Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia:

• Highgate Hill/West End;
• Southbank;
• Teneriffe/New Farm;
• Kangaroo Point;
• Fortitude Valley; and
• Hamilton.

All multi-unit complexes were identified within each precinct and, using a proportionate sampling technique, 2311 units were randomly selected and received a postal questionnaire. A total of 636 questionnaires were returned, providing a 28% response rate. Follow-up qualitative interviews were conducted with 24 residents to gain a deeper perspective on their experiences of living in an inner-urban high density environment.
